After a couple of years of weekly therapy sessions, a patient asks her psychologist, "Doctor, when do you think my analysis will be done?"  The therapist, tapping his pen thoughtfully on his notepad responds, "Let's see...I have 10 payments left on my Mercedes, then I need..."

The serious implications this joke evokes is not lost on a new breed of Solution Focused psychotherapists who believe that most problems can be solved in a relatively short period of time, without long, drawn-out and expensive analysis.  The objective of this short term therapy is to find workable, realistic ways in which people can resolve or manage their problems effectively.  Solution Focused psychotherapy addresses present situations rather than seeking the cause or source of a problem.

A patient recently came to me, after being in traditional psychoanalysis for about eight years, complaining of the same problems which had initially caused her to seek therapy.  These complaints included insomnia, anxiety and panic attacks.  Within six months we had effectively dealt with her problems and she was able to sleep at night and spend her days without the constant fears and anxieties she had previously suffered.  Her therapy had built upon her strengths and emphasized the positive.  Along with strategic hypnotherapy which helped her get in touch with her unconscious self, this patient was able to implement the strategic steps necessary to alter her present circumstances and effect positive changes within her.

The emphasis of Solution Focused psychotherapy is not on what was and why, but on what is and what can be.  This produces positive results in a short period of time, saving the patient the expense of many sessions as well as the emotional anguish and dependency often associated with conventional psychotherapy.  Effective therapy stimulates change, changing one's experience and one's life for the better.  Hypnosis helps alter experiences by bringing solutions to light through the use of a comfortable, relaxing trance.  In combination with hypnotherapy, solution focused therapy is a fast effective way to resolve or deal with many problems including anxiety, panic, addictions, depressions, phobias, sexual concerns, sleep disorders, stress, and many others.

The stress of modern life is real, there is no denying it.  But the way you respond is up to you.  You do not have to accept insomnia, pain, anxiety or fear as irreversible facts of life, or spend years upon endless years in analysis looking for answers.

There is therapy with a happy end in sight!
